The Kachikally sacred crocodile pool and museum are just ten miles from the capital of The Gambia, Banjul. The pool is used as a site for fertility rituals and believed to have supernatural powers.

Last season (according to a bar owner) there was an organised day trip by coach which took in some of the sights and ended up at Rainbow Beach bar in Sanyang and then back to the ship.

 My husband flew back to UK on Gambiabird this morning and despite leaving Gambia 40 minutes late last night, they landed 20 mins early this morning. He too was impressed with the service, both outward and return. Flight out wasn't full but he said the return today was almost full

Gambian immigration was also easy, you see an official at the back, have details entered into a ledger, then go to the other side of the building for a free 21-day stamp. 70gmd shared taxi to Barra port after a 1.5hour wait; Followed the crowds to the ferry (10gmd / foot passenger), which left after an hour, but took a whopping 3.5 hours to cross the 3km strait, due to engine issues.

Many African tribes believe that masks enable them to connect with the spirits. The Mandinka tribe dominates the tribes that populate Banjul in The Gambia and these tribesmen are also present in Senegal and Ghana.
